#7784 Shiraz Rug This circa 1900 Shiraz measures 4’8” x 6’5” (146 x 198 cm). The way the ends are finished this is probably a Quashki and the wefts are brown which usually means Kampsheh but who knows. The blue field contains a very crowded design. i don’t see any chickens in there but there must be one or two. There are a couple of very interesting designs that look like a bulls head looking straight at you. Look around and you’ll find them. Aha! i just found four chickens! I’m sure there are more. The center contains a six sided pole medallion. The corners are worked in the same red as the medallion. The rug has two minor reciprocal borders and red and white diagonal stripes rising into triangles in the field. The border is very odd. i have never seen this. It consists of a chain of tomato red botehs passing over what looks like the head of a parrot in blue with a red eye. Each pair of botehs is separated by a small cypress tree. We all know what that means. All is on a midnight blue ground. The rug could be fuller pile and thirty or forty years older but i don’t think the border could be any cooler at all. One end is complete but missing about 1 inch of the final 4 rows of knots. There is a 1 inch by 1 inch patch in the lower left corner. The pile is evenly low with no foundation showing. The buyer pays the shipping with insurance. https://www.antiqueorientalrugs.com/persian4.htm
