Crazy quilt with "exploding star" design, made and signed by Thora Hildebrand in 1896. American textile folk art at its best. Please compare with e.g. the Georgia Maltbie quilt at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. The piece is composed of patches of cotton, silk, and velvet sewed together with a multitude of stich techniques and patterns, and size is 155x110 cm. The star lobes bears the names of several individuals; Oscar, Herbert, Suther, Ebba, Isidore, Arthur, and Frank Broman. The original thirteen-star us flag is attached at the top (do not know if it was there from the beginning). Generally in good shape, except for many of the silk panels that needs to be backed.
